Batik is not merely fabric with beautiful patterns. Behind each motif and the process of making it are values of history, philosophy, creativity, perseverance, and the identity of Indonesian society. Therefore, wearing and preserving batik can be one tangible way of appreciating the cultural diversity that is a strength of the nation.
Within the higher education environment, the commemoration of National Batik Day can also serve as a space to build awareness among the younger generation about the importance of preserving cultural heritage amid technological developments and changing lifestyles. Students, as the generation of change (agents of change), have an important role in introducing and developing Indonesian culture through various creative approaches that are relevant to the development of the times.

For the Faculty of Psychology USU, cultural preservation is also related to the formation of individual character and identity. The values contained in culture can become part of the process of social learning, the development of a sense of belonging, and the strengthening of individual and group identity. Thus, culture is not only viewed as a heritage from the past but also as a source of values that can continue to develop and provide meaning to people's lives.

The commemoration of National Batik Day 2026 is in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, particularly in encouraging education that is not only oriented toward academic knowledge but also builds appreciation for culture, social values, creativity, and diversity. Understanding local culture can enrich the educational process while developing a generation that is aware of its identity and social environment. In addition, batik preservation is also relevant to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, particularly through efforts to preserve and protect cultural heritage. The existence of batik as cultural heritage demonstrates that sustainable development is not only related to environmental and economic aspects but also encompasses the sustainability of culture and community identity.

Through the momentum of National Batik Day 2026, the Faculty of Psychology USU invites the entire academic community to continue appreciating Indonesia's cultural diversity and making cultural preservation part of everyday life. Wearing batik is not merely a form of celebration but also a symbol of pride in Indonesian identity and a commitment to preserving cultural heritage so that it remains alive across generations.

Happy National Batik Day 2026. Let us preserve our culture, strengthen our identity, and pass on Indonesia's heritage to future generations.
