Faculty of Psychology

The Undergraduate Program in Psychology at USU was established on April 7, 1999, under Decree No. 116/DIKTI/Kep/1999. Initially under the Faculty of Medicine, it became an independent Faculty of Psychology on July 16, 2007, allowing more flexibility to face challenges with a visionary and strategic approach. Today, the undergraduate curriculum integrates the core values of BINTANG and competitive excellence of TALENTA, which are aligned with USU’s strategic plan, through interdisciplinary courses that promote agroindustry and local wisdom. Academic activities occur at the Faculty of Psychology, taught by qualified lecturers and practitioners.

History

1998

The proposal for opening the Psychology Study Program at the Universitas Sumatera Utara to the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture was submitted on October 31, 1998.

1999

On February 3, 1999, a proposal for the opening of the USU Psychology Study Program was sent to Prof. Dr. Masrun, Chair of the Psychology Consortium. The Consortium Chairman visited USU on February 25, 1999, and recommended the opening of the Psychology Study Program at USU. On April 7, 1999, Decree No. 116/DIKTI/Kep/1999 was issued regarding establishing the USU Psychology Study Program. On April 19, 1999, USU Rector Decree No. 588/JO5/SK/KP/1999 was issued regarding establishing the Psychology Study Program Preparation Team under the management of the USU Faculty of Medicine. On April 30, 1999 to May 1, 1999, the preparation of the Psychology Study Program curriculum draft was carried out by the USU Faculty of Medicine Psychology Study Program Preparation Team assisted by Mrs. Hera L Mikarsa, PhD, Chair of the UI Faculty of Psychology Professional Program and Mrs. Bernadette N Setiadi, PhD, Expert Staff of the Institute of Applied Psychology, UI Faculty of Psychology then on June 14-19, 1999 PEKERTI Training (Basic Skills Development Program for Instructional Techniques) was held for Psychology Study Program lecturers. Furthermore, on June 30, 1999, a workshop on promoting and socializing the Psychology Study Program was held for university leaders, faculties, institutions, and technical implementation units within USU and from the Psychology professional community. On August 12, 1999, a Decree of the Rector of USU was issued regarding the Appointment of the Management of the USU Psychology Study Program. In the academic year 1999/2000, the first batch of new students of the Psychology Study Program was admitted through UMPTN.

2002

The signing of the UI-USU cooperation agreement regarding opening the USU Master of Professional Psychology Program in 2004. Signed by the Dean of the UI Faculty of Psychology, Prof. Dr. H. Sarlito Wirawan Sarwono, and the Dean of the USU Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Sutomo Kasiman, Sp. PD (K).

2003/2004

The first USU Faculty of Medicine Psychology Study Program (S1 level) graduates graduated in the 2003/2004 academic year. Then, on September 28, 04, an MOU was signed between PP HIMPSI and USU regarding implementing the USU Masters Level Psychology Education Program (P4JM).

2005

On January 28, 2005, a Certificate of Accreditation Number: 07088/Ak-VIII-S1-001/USUCZI/I/2005 was issued from the Accreditation Board for the Psychology Study Program of the USU Faculty of Medicine, with a B (Good) rating. Then, on July 22, 2005, the USU P4JM Establishment Permit Certification was issued by the Indonesian Psychology Association (HIMPSI). Then, on December 20, 2005, a permit was issued for implementing the Masters Level Psychology Education Program from DIKTI.

2006

On August 26, 2006, the inauguration of P4JM USU was held. Extension of cooperation in implementing the USU Masters Level Psychology Education Program (P4JM) - UI Faculty of Psychology until 2009. Signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology UI, Dra. Yati Utoyo Lubis, PhD.
