The activity, intended for lecturers supervising undergraduate theses and master's theses as well as students currently completing their undergraduate theses and master's theses, featured Dr. Phil. Idhamsyah Eka Putra, Ph.D. as the main speaker. The workshop discussed the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support the process of academic writing and publication while emphasizing an understanding of the challenges and ethical boundaries of its use.
The event began with an opening by Dr. Tarmidi as the Master of Ceremonies (MC), followed by remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology USU, Prof. Dr. Vivi Gusrini Rahmadani Pohan, M.Sc., M.A., Psychologist. In her remarks, Prof. Vivi expressed her hope that the activity would provide the academic community with an understanding of how to use technology appropriately and responsibly.
“With this workshop, we hope to make good use of technology while continuing to adhere to existing ethical standards,” said Prof. Vivi.
Dr. Phil. Idhamsyah Eka Putra then delivered material on the use of AI in the process of writing scientific manuscripts. The discussion focused not only on the opportunities offered by AI to support academic productivity but also highlighted the challenges and limitations of its use in academic contexts.
Through this activity, participants were encouraged to use AI as a supporting technology in the academic process without neglecting critical thinking, originality, integrity, and researchers' responsibility in producing scientific works.
This activity also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through strengthening the capacity of lecturers and students in scientific writing and publication.
The workshop proceeded smoothly through the presentation of materials and interaction between the speaker and participants. The activity is expected to serve as a learning platform for the academic community of the Faculty of Psychology USU to strengthen their capacity in scientific writing and publication while building awareness that technological developments need to be accompanied by ethics, integrity, and academic responsibility.
The event concluded with a group photo session involving Dr. Phil. Idhamsyah Eka Putra as the speaker, lecturers, and all workshop participants. The group photo served as the closing of the activity as well as a moment to capture the togetherness and spirit of collaboration in improving the quality of scientific publications within the Faculty of Psychology USU.
